While at a customer site today, the customer needed an additional VMware datastore presented to all of the hosts in their environment. After adding the datastore, all of the hosts in the cluster were showing a warning sign. The messages indicated “Deprecated VMFS volume(s) found on the host. Please consider upgrading volume(s) to the latest version”.
I found this was a known issue to VMware KB 2109735. Currently there is no resolution. To clear the message, you can either reboot the hosts, or restart the management agents on the affected hosts. There are two ways to accomplish restarting the management agents on the hosts if you are not familiar.
A) Log into the console, and select “Restart Management Agents”
B) SSH into the host, and run the following commands:
- /etc/init.d/hostd restart
- /etc/init.d/vpxa restart
After about a minute, the message will clear.
